Early Years Foundation Stage Vision at Tywardreath School.
As children journey through their Early Years at Tywardreath School they become confident learners who enjoy mastering new skills and discovering more about themselves and the world around them. As a School, we make education accessible and fun, harnessing a child’s naturally inquisitive nature and using this to develop an engaging curriculum.
We recognise that every child is unique and deserving of the highest-quality attention in order to fulfil their potential. We encourage all children to express themselves with increasing fluency, build relationships with their peers and enjoy the wide range of opportunities on offer in the learning environment – both indoors and outdoors. Such a positive experience is central to the enjoyment of the EYFS years. In our Early Years setting, we provide a safe and nurturing environment in which all children can thrive and develop at an appropriate pace. We foster a love of learning both through investigative play and structured teaching sessions.

We value each child’s views and opinions and we invite children to shape their own learning by prioritising child directed play. We want children to be engrossed in their learning as this naturally promotes concentration and deeper thinking with Staff aiming to turn every possible experience in to a learning opportunity.
The environment in which your child will learn will be safe, calm, inclusive and organised. It will promote, independent learning, problem solving and provide challenge. We want children to explore the 3 characteristics of effective learning:
Playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically.
We provide a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum with an emphasis on the development of early reading, early writing and language development. This curriculum is carefully delivered through child-initiated play and adult led activities.
At the start of your child’s journey, we prioritise the teaching and modelling of communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. The skills learnt in these areas, will reduce any barriers to learning and so enable your child to make progress in all other significant areas of the curriculum.

At Tywardreath School, we have access to excellent facilities including our swimming pool and forest school area. Weekly swimming sessions with a qualified swim teacher and lifeguard provide children with the opportunity to develop their gross motor skills and learn a lifelong skill, child initiated play in our newly renovated forest school area, helps to develop the skills and explore the characteristics of effective learning.
EYFS staff monitor, assess and work towards your child’s next steps each day. Learning journeys are added to and the children are encouraged to share these moments with their parents/carers. We value strong links with our parents and carers and encourage them to contribute to their child’s learning journey with observations and pictures through Tapestry, our on-line communication tool.
Staff pride themselves in building strong relationships with our children allowing them to feel happy, safe, secure and ready to learn. Throughout the year we aim to provide children with exciting, meaningful and purposeful learning experiences that will develop the fundamental skills needed to ensure a smooth transition into Year 1.
